Attingham Park · National Trust · River Tern
An hour on the River Tern, winding through one of Shropshire's most beautiful estates. No experience needed. Just turn up, get in, and let the current do most of the talking.
The Experience
The River Tern runs quietly through the heart of Attingham Park, away from the paths and the crowds. From the water, you see the estate the way it was meant to be seen — kingfishers darting ahead, the old cedars reflected below, the mansion glimpsed through the trees.
It takes about five minutes to feel like you've left everything behind. That's not marketing. That's just what the river does.
We provide everything: the canoe, paddles, buoyancy aids, and a proper safety briefing before you push off. You just need to show up.
What to Expect
Follow the blue Canoe Hire signs from the entrance. Head to the front of the Mansion, then down the hill toward the river — look for the Cedars of Lebanon. You'll see the canoes.
Nothing complicated. We'll show you how to paddle, talk you through getting in and out, and make sure everyone's comfortable before you go. Takes about ten minutes.
The river's gentle — no rapids, no drama. Go as far as you like, pull over on the bank if you fancy a breather, and keep an eye out for the kingfishers. They're faster than they look.

What People Say
Canoed up to the second bridge and saw swans, a heron, and the most beautiful blue damsel flies hovering on the water. What a wonderful end to an amazing day.

River was quiet and beautiful and you can go as far and as fast or slow as you like. As first timers we found the instruction very useful. Really enjoyed it.
